I believe this is because the air force is not suffering 2.3 body bags per day in iraq?

As an USAF member I can tell you that traditionally we are in the rear with the gear. However in this war we do have personnel on the front getting shot at and killed like the other services. The reason we are downsizing is because with the new plan we need to have a smaller faster service that would increase our capabilities. Another reason is that the defense budget is cutting our spending limits for the very reason that we are not a front line unit. I'm not sure if you actually had a question here or not but this was my answer.
